John is the perfect example of both determination and the power of education. With GEF support he recently completed a BSC in Clinical Medicine at Jomo Kenyatta University and is working as a Doctor in Karatina.
His journey was not easy. John’s mum and dad work hard as coffee farmers but struggled to earn enough to afford the education fees of John and his siblings. His mum developed medical issues after some errors during treatment and this then inspired John to pursue a career in medicine.
He was determined to be able to give his mum the medical care she deserved. However, after completing secondary education, financial difficulties meant that John’s prospects of attending the university he had been selected for seemed like an impossible dream. He reached out to GEF and we were able to find two incredible monthly sponsors who funded his university education and accommodation.
John’s dedication not only secured his own future but inspired his younger sister to follow in his footsteps. Together they are breaking the cycle of poverty in their family and making a positive impact on their community.
Their story serves as a reminder that through perseverance and support, dreams can indeed become a reality.
