Joan, age 10

Until recently the family lived in such poor conditions that the children struggled to sleep and often asked neighbours to use they homes to rest.

Joan and her five siblings live with both parents, their mother was relying on sporadic work in the area, which is not guaranteed daily. She spends most of her earnings on food for the family and as a result had very little left to cover school fees. The cycle has been never ending for the family and draining, both mentally and financially.

Last year the family received a new house built by GEF which now means they are together and able to sleep in a safe and secure place. In turn, Joan's performance in school has greatly improved and she now has a place to study with good lighting. The family also have a small plot to grow their own food. In order to enable Joan to continue her education uninterrupted we hope to find a sponsor to support her dreams and ambitions of becoming a doctor in the future.

By sponsoring Joan's education for £35 per month, you will be giving her the chance to attend and complete secondary and tertiary education. 100% of your support will go towards her public-school fees, uniform, shoes, books, school meals, stationery and menstrual care products when required.

You will receive an end of year school performance and general update along with a photo from us and have the chance to meet her should you come on one of our Kenya House Building (next one 2026) trips to Kenya.
