The GEF team and some volunteers met the very inspiring Rhoda and her family in 2018. She has been through more than anyone could imagine, fighting for her life and losing her hands in 2008 when her husband attacked her with a machete.
Her daughter, who at the time was only 4 years old witnessed the whole thing. Rhoda was very open and welcoming, telling us her whole story and her struggles. Rhoda may have lost her hands but she has not lost hope, she has not lost her incredible smile and she has not lost her determined spirit. She believes she is capable of anything she puts her mind to and takes pride in cooking and washing for her children whilst also taking on some market stall work. She is a true inspiration to everyone who meets her and a role model for her two very polite children Kevin and Viona who we are proud to support.
