“I have been fortunate to be involved with the Gathimba Edwards Foundation since day one. I met Myles whilst working at prosource IT, prosource sponsor Myles as an athlete and I took care of various marketing tasks for the sponsorship.
It was during this time Myles did the first Facebook post to raise money to buy 22 mattresses for the children at the Pavilion Village children’s home. Following that post fundraising activities went from strength to strength before the foundation was officially established in 2014.
I have helped with various initiatives and events, including the inaugural fundraising dinner in February 2015 and 2017 where we raised a staggering £42,000 and £49,000, but also the house building trips to Kenya each year. Being in Kenya has really brought everything together for me, getting to meet the people we are helping first hand really was a monumental experience and one that will stay with me forever.
I currently live and work in Aberdeen as an Events Manager and help out with as much voluntary work for the foundation as I can. This ranges from sourcing raffle/auction prizes to planning the trips and dinners as well as other smaller events such as pub quizzes.
I feel so privileged to work alongside Myles, Gideon and everyone else who commits their time to the Gathimba Edwards Foundation, knowing that together we really are changing children and their families’ lives for the better. To be a part of giving children a home, an education, regular meals and a brighter future is more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.”
