In 2017 we met this family living in the most cramped conditions we have ever seen. 8 Children and their mother sleep between 2 tiny mud huts on the side of the road.
They previously lived in the forest but were evicted by the Government and then put on a waiting list for a home. They were 10th on the list but when it came to their turn the local area Chief stole the land and gave it to his son, leaving them to remain in these desperate and dangerous conditions.
The eldest sons used mud and sticks to build them a ‘temporary’ home. They have slept every night for the past 9 years on the cold dirt floor in the corner of their hut as a family, trying to keep warm, dodging the cooking fire in the corner and puddles leaking from their grass roof.
Thankfully the family now have a safe place to live with the GEF team and volunteers building them a new home in July 2018; it includes enough space on their land to harvest their own crops.
The two of the children of the family are yet to be sponsored, if you can help us get these children back to school click here.
