With a focus on female empowerment, the room was full of 130 strong women who were all there to support girls and women in Kenya who, due to circumstance, do not have the same privileges and opportunities as many others do around the world.
Guests enjoyed prosecco, delicious canapes and lunch thanks to Union Kirk and were inspired by moving presentations from our brilliant compere Fiona Booth and guest speakers Lorraine Lee, Ali Maclachlan, Stef Dale and Jade Flannigan. They were also entertained by fabulous singer Rhianne Armstrong and magician Neil McArthur.
We are also hugely grateful to all who attended the event, volunteers who helped on the day, the 5 local businesses who took a stall, Andrew and Brian for audio/visual support, Michal Wachucik of Aberdmedia for photography support and Kelly Bruce and the team at Union Kirk and the team at Union Kirk.
Every penny of the £10,000 raised will go towards:
- Paying the school fees of determined and talented girls who are out of school due to a lack of fees. It will also provide them with uniform, shoes, stationery, books, school meals and sanitary towels
- Improving the living conditions of girls who struggle to study due to lack of light and furniture to do their homework
- Starting and expanding farming business projects for inspiring women
- Develop our psychosocial support program which guides, supports and encourages children and their parents. Lead by our social worker Serah, we aim to increase the capacity of the programme by employing a second support worker and adding several seminars and workshops to the calendar
