Humphrey was born in 1997 and lives with his mum Lucy and younger siblings Gibson, Phoeby, Ivy and Fidelis. Humphrey’s grades at school were amongst the highest we have seen. Sadly when we first met him in 2015 he was in Form 3 and had been sent home from school due to large school fee arrears dating back to the previous year.
His mum was working 6 days a week earning less than £1.50 per day and so it was almost impossible for her to put meals on the table, let alone keep her kids in school. Humphrey’s dad sadly passed away and to add to their challenges his uncles chased them out of the family home and refused to support them in any way. Humphrey still managed to pass his exams with high marks despite missing large periods of the course work due to being sent home.
This is when Chris Carr and his colleagues at Thorpe Molly Recruitment in Aberdeen stepped in to sponsor Humphrey each month. He is now continuing to study hard at St Paul’s University, about to start his second year Bachelor of Commerce. Gibson, Phoeby, Ivy and Fidelis are all in school full-time, eating regular meals and wearing nice clothes thanks to sponsorship from Rhona Graham, Donna Berrie, Drew & Helen Leitch and Pam Emslie respectively. Our volunteers also built them a new home in October 2017.
