The GEF team and some volunteers met the very inspiring Rhoda and her family in Karatina in 2018. She has been through more than anyone could imagine, fighting for her life and losing her hands in 2008 when her husband attacked her with a machete.
Her daughter, who at the time was only 4 years old witnessed the whole thing. Rhoda was very open and welcoming, telling us her whole story and her struggles. She works selling second hand clothes in the market to get a small amount of money for her family. Unfortunately people often take advantage of her disability, taking more than they are entitled when she hands customers her purse for their change.
Rhoda may have lost her hands but she has not lost hope, she has not lost her incredible smile and she has not lost her determined spirit. She believes she is capable of anything she puts her mind to and takes pride in cooking and washing for her children. She is a true inspiration to everyone who meets her and a role model for her two very polite children.
Help us to support this family by sponsoring the children Viona and Kevin’s school fees. For more information on how to do so please click here
